Large-scale commercial UR30ST copper alloy wire demonstration pen

Mitsubishi Shindoh Co., Ltd. (President Kazumasa Hori, capitalized at 8.7 billion yen, and headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), in cooperation with EcoSea S.A. (Chile) and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, under the umbrella of the Chilean state-owned copper corporation CODELCO, have installed a large-scale demonstration pen for Yellowtail (Seriola) in Japan.

The fish pen is state of the art submergible system developed by EcoSea S.A. The submergible system will be utilized in the near future. The project is lead by Dr. Masahiko Ariji of Kinki University Department of Fisheries, in cooperation with Tokyo Ichiban Foods and Nagasaki Farms.

EcoSea is interested in developing offshore farming utilizing their submergible technology firstly in Japan then throughout the world. Submergible offshore farming is the next-generation method of aquaculture to help meet the growing global demand for fish products. UR30ST aquaculture wire greatly reduces fouling of nets and the need for cleaning pens. The wire is also known to reduce parasite levels, demonstrated increased growth rates, and is a predator friendly anti predator mesh. UR30ST pens maintain shape despite currents insuring constant pen volume and while synthetic mesh must be disposed of, UR30ST is recycled. Overall UR30ST reduces farm operation costs and improves crop yields. The current project is designed to quantify known properties for the Japanese market.

UR30ST is already utilized by more than 400 pens around the globe for over 20 years. The wire is environmentally friendly and 100% recyclable.

We strive to contribute to sustainable and environmentally friendly aquaculture.
